Use of capsule endoscopy has revealed that NSAID plus PPI strategy does not effectively reduce the small bowel lesions that will occur with an NSAID in the small intestine.
12.5% of all GI events which occur with NSAIDs are found in the lower gastrointestinal tract. This proportion of events would not be effectively treated by the NSAID plus PPI strategy.
