- The Harvey-Bradshaw index was devised in 1980 as a simpler version of the Crohn’s disease activity index (CDAI) for data collection purposes. It consists of only clinical parameters: The first three items are scored for the previous day.
- Patients with Crohn’s disease who scored 3 or less on the HBI were very likely to be in remission according to the CDAI.
- Patients who scored 7 or more on the HBI were very likely to be in relapse according to the Crohn’s disease activity index.
- This index is far simpler to use than the CDAI and does not require biochemical tests.
