It is done for pancreatic cancer or chronic pancreatitis.
The standard Whipple procedure involves removal of the
- pancreatic head
- duodenum and first 15 cm of the jejunum
- common bile duct and gallbladder
- partial gastrectomy
Reconstruction consists of
- Pancreatojejunostomy (attaching the pancreas to the jejunum)
- Choledocho/hepatico jejunostomy (attaching the CBD/hilum to the jejunum)
- Gastrojejunostomy
